The Accountant will be responsible for full-cycle accounting for a portfolio of community associations, including monthly financial statement production and budget development for a mix of standard and large-scale, multi-phase communities. This role is a strong fit for someone who wants meaningful ownership over their portfolio.
Key Responsibilities- Financial Reporting:
Prepare accurate monthly financial statements for an assigned portfolio of community associations, hitting a consistent monthly close deadline. - Budgeting:
Build and maintain annual budgets, including for large-scale, master-planned communities with multiple product types, differing assessment rates, and budgets that evolve over time as new homes come online. - Assessments & Collections:
Support the assessment billing and collections process, ensuring accurate posting and reconciliation of homeowner payments. - Vendor & AP Support:
Process and reconcile vendor payments tied to community operations. - Account Reconciliation:
Reconcile bank and general ledger accounts monthly; research and resolve discrepancies. - Client Communication:
Respond to routine financial questions from community boards and, over time, present and explain financial statements directly to clients. - Process & Systems:
Maintain accurate records in our accounting platform; flag opportunities to improve efficiency as the portfolio and complexity grow. - Cross-Team
Collaboration:
Partner with community managers and internal teams to ensure financials reflect what's actually happening in each community.
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred (equivalent experience considered).
- 2+ years of accounting/bookkeeping experience; no CPA required.
- No HOA, metro district, or property management background required, general accounting fundamentals are what matter.
- Comfortable producing a full set of financials, not just data entry.
- Ability to manage multiple, moderately complex budgets simultaneously.
- Strong attention to detail and comfort with deadline-driven monthly close cycles.
- Proficiency with accounting software and MS Office/Excel.
- Clear, professional communication skills; comfort growing into client-facing conversations.
