WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR IN A PROJECT ENGINEER
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project
  • Strong record-keeping and documentation skills
  • Familiarity with Procore, Microsoft Project, Primavera P6, or equivalent scheduling software
  • Ability to conduct on-site project evaluations and travel to meetings within or outside the DWSD service area
  • Ability to manage multiple contracts simultaneously
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision
  • Strong follow-through and problem-resolution skills
  • Valid driver's license required

Preferred Qualifications:

Three or more years of construction management experience is required. Experience working directly for a municipality, water district, general contractor, or consulting firm supporting municipal projects is highly preferred.

DAY-TO-DAY

As our Project Engineer, you'll serve as a key driver behind the success of critical infrastructure projects, coordinating efforts from planning and permitting through construction and startup. Throughout your day, you'll collaborate with contractors, consultants, government entities, residents, and internal teams to keep projects moving forward while ensuring compliance, quality, safety, and budget objectives are met. You'll review designs, manage consultant and construction contracts, monitor schedules and project performance, coordinate inspections and testing, resolve construction challenges, oversee documentation such as RFIs, permits, change orders, and submittals, and provide progress updates to stakeholders and leadership.

Your ability to balance technical oversight, stakeholder communication, risk management, and project controls will play a vital role in delivering successful projects that support the District's long-term goals.
