POSITION SUMMARY
The Senior Mechanical Engineer is responsible for leading and coordinating mechanical engineering efforts on small to large heavy‑industrial projects with a particular emphasis on mining, mineral processing, and bulk material handling systems. This role provides advanced technical expertise in the design, specification, and integration of mechanical systems and equipment, oversees engineering deliverables, and ensures that mechanical designs meet project requirements for safety, reliability, constructability, and cost-effectiveness while supporting overall project schedules and objectives.

This role provides advanced technical expertise in the design, specification, and integration of mechanical systems and equipment, oversees engineering deliverables, and ensures that mechanical designs meet project requirements for safety, reliability, constructability, and cost-effectiveness while supporting overall project schedules and objectives.
Essential Job FunctionsThe Senior Mechanical Engineer position is structured in four progressive levels (IC through I). Level IV represents the entry level within the Senior Mechanical Engineer classification and Level I represents the highest level of responsibility and technical leadership.

- Promotes and ensures inter-discipline communication at all levels.
- Uses and promotes the use of existing design data to standardize design efforts from one job to the next.
- Performs other duties as directed by the Chief Mechanical Engineer.
- Assists senior team members with basic design coordination tasks and supports mechanical engineering activities under supervision.
- Contributes to technical documentation and project deliverables including engineering reports, equipment datasheets, and design documentation.
- Performs basic mechanical engineering calculations and assists with equipment sizing and layout development.
- Assists in reviewing vendor drawings and technical documentation to ensure compliance with project requirements.
- Coordinates technical efforts on small projects under minimal supervision.
- Supports review of project budgets and schedules.
- Ensures consistent application of design standards across ongoing work.
- Provides discipline guidance to junior engineers and designers.
- Identifies technical risks and elevates them appropriately.
- Prepares equipment specifications, datasheets, and supporting engineering documentation.
- Reviews vendor drawings and technical submittals for compliance with project requirements and engineering standards.
- Coordinates mechanical engineering deliverables with other engineering disciplines including civil, structural, electrical, and process engineering.
- In a supervisory capacity, develops, coordinates, and directs a number of small projects.
- Reviews and updates project budgets and schedules with limited guidance.
- Assists the Chief Mechanical Engineer in planning manpower requirements.
- Ensures alignment between mechanical discipline deliverables and overall project objectives.
- Oversees discipline technical quality and adherence to standards.
- Supports equipment procurement activities including vendor evaluation, technical bid review, and equipment selection.
- Provides mechanical engineering support during construction, installation, and commissioning activities when required.
- In a supervisory capacity, develops, coordinates, and directs one project of major scope and importance.
- Assists the Chief Mechanical Engineer with the development of budgets and deliverables lists on proposals.
- Provides strategic input on manpower planning and long-term resource allocation.
- Drives standardization of mechanical design practices across projects.
- Acts as a senior technical advisor on complex or high-risk engineering decisions.
- Provide technical mentorship and leadership to mechanical engineering staff.
- Interfaces with clients, vendors, and project leadership on complex technical and project execution matters.
