FULL SALARY RANGE: $26.60 - $38.02 per hour

ANTICIPATED HIRING SALARY RANGE: $26.60 – $32.31 per hour Commensurate to Experience

Job Summary

The purpose of this position is to ensure completion of scheduled preventative maintenance, perform safety inspections, diagnose, and perform mechanical repair of small engine equipment including two/four cycle gasoline, diesel-powered, battery-powered, and alternative-powered equipment. Perform skilled labor involved in the maintenance and repair of parks, turf areas, landscape areas, open spaces, ball fields, right-of-way, and trails to ensure these areas are safe, available, clean, and aesthetically pleasing.

The position also participates in snow and ice control activities; operates heavy construction equipment; and directs a crew of seasonal or temporary workers in the performance of varied duties.

As a municipal organization, Greenwood Village is a provider of emergency services. Some emergency situations, including weather-related emergencies, may necessitate Greenwood Village employees to assist in areas of work that may not be directly related to the employees’ specific job function, but which will be within the physical capabilities, training, and skills of the employee. Essential Mobility Functions

The physical requirement of this position includes heavy manual labor requiring a full range of physical motion including sitting, standing, walking, manual digging, pushing, pulling, twisting, turning, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, climbing, balancing, crawling, and reaching for objects; talking to and hearing customers on the telephone and in person; manual dexterity for use of office equipment and manual hand tools; lifting and carrying objects up to 50 pounds.

Duties/Responsibilities

A. Mechanical Responsibilities

  • Inspects, troubleshoots and diagnoses mechanical, electrical and hydraulic defects in all small engine and battery-powered equipment.
  • Performs minor and major equipment repairs including replacing component parts, small engine rebuilds, and tire repair and replacement, which involves equipment lifts and commercial machinery.
  • Performs preventive maintenance on small-engine equipment.
  • Conducts field service calls when equipment fails on a job site. Repairs equipment on site or coordinates how to get the equipment back to the shop for repair, coordinates a replacement piece of equipment when needed.
  • Reads and interprets blueprints, schematic wiring diagrams, hydrostatic and hydraulic systems, and associated components.
  • Coordinates, schedules, and transports equipment to outside vendors for repair using a truck and trailer.
  • Performs various types of welding and plasma cutting activities associated with equipment repairs and varied tasks and/or projects while keeping all associated personal protective equipment maintained and in good working order.
  • Serves as subject matter expert on small engine equipment, answers questions and trains others on the safe and proper use of small engine equipment.
  • Stays current on new small engine equipment, accessories, and equipment options.
  • Attends training opportunities for both small engine repair and maintenance, and turf/parks maintenance. This includes obtaining certifications to complete warranty work on small engines and/or professional turf maintenance certificates.

B. Administrative Responsibilities

  • Maintains history of maintenance on all small equipment including hour/mileage usage, and schedules subsequent preventative maintenance with user groups.
  • Maintains parts inventory including purchasing, tracking and stocking necessary parts and shop supplies.
