Position Title: Robotics Assistant

Grade Levels: 6-8

Reports To: Robotics Coach/Teacher and Building Administration

Position Summary

The Robotics Assistant supports the robotics program for students in grades 7–12 by assisting the Robotics Coach/Teacher with practices, competitions, projects, and day-to-day program activities. This position helps create a positive, safe, and engaging environment where students can develop skills in robotics, engineering, programming, problem-solving, teamwork, and communication.

The Robotics Assistant will work directly with students as they design, build, program, test, and improve robots while encouraging creativity, collaboration, and good sportsmanship.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist the Robotics Coach/Teacher with the organization and operation of the grades 7–12 robotics program.
  • Provide supervision and support to students during robotics practices, meetings, events, and competitions.
  • Assist students with the design, construction, programming, testing, and troubleshooting of robots.
  • Help students safely and appropriately use robotics equipment, tools, computers, and other technology.
  • Encourage students to use critical-thinking and problem-solving skills when completing robotics challenges.
  • Support students in learning basic engineering, mechanical, electrical, and programming concepts.
  • Help organize and maintain robotics equipment, tools, parts, supplies, and work spaces.
  • Assist with preparing materials and equipment for practices and competitions.
  • Reinforce proper safety procedures and ensure students follow established rules when using tools and equipment.
  • Promote teamwork, responsibility, sportsmanship, and respectful communication among team members.
  • Assist with monitoring student behavior and maintaining a positive learning environment.
  • Help students prepare for robotics competitions, demonstrations, and other program events.
  • Assist with transporting, setting up, and breaking down robotics equipment at competitions or events as needed.
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with the Robotics Coach/Teacher, students, staff, and families.
  • Attend robotics competitions and events as required by the program.
  • Perform other duties related to the robotics program as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Experience working with middle school and/or high school students preferred.
  • Interest or experience in robotics, STEM, engineering, technology, mechanics, electronics, or computer programming preferred.
  • Ability and willingness to learn robotics systems, equipment, and software used by the program.
  • Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with students and staff.
  • Ability to provide positive guidance while allowing students to take ownership of their projects and problem-solving.
  • Dependable, patient, and enthusiastic about supporting student learning.
  • Ability to attend after-school practices, competitions, and other robotics events as required.
Physical Requirements

The position may require standing for extended periods, bending, reaching, moving throughout the robotics workspace, and assisting with the setup and movement of robotics equipment and supplies. The employee must be able to safely work around tools, mechanical components, computers, and other robotics equipment.
