Position: 1:1 Instructional Assistant

REPORTS TO: Building Principal

FLSA CLASSIFICATION: Hourly, Non-Exempt

COMPENSATION: Based on Classified Pay Model

WORK CALENDAR: 180 Days

5 Hours per Day / 25 Hours per Week

Position Overview

Greenwood Community Schools is seeking a caring, patient, and dependable Instructional Assistant to provide individualized 1:1 support. The instructional assistant will work closely with the classroom teacher, behavior support staff, and school administration to help the student safely and successfully access the school environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Provide consistent 1:1 supervision and support throughout the student's school day.

Support the student with classroom routines, transitions, academic activities, social-emotional skills, and behavioral expectations. Implement strategies and supports outlined by the student's educational and behavior plans under the direction of certified staff.

Utilize positive reinforcement, visual supports, prompting, redirection, and other appropriate strategies to encourage successful behavior and participation.

Assist with maintaining the safety of the student, peers, and staff, including providing close supervision during transitions, recess, and other school activities. Collect or assist with basic behavioral and academic data as directed by the student's educational team.

Communicate and collaborate effectively with teachers, special education staff, support staff, and administrators.

Maintain student confidentiality and demonstrate professionalism at all times.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will be patient, calm, flexible, and able to build positive relationships with young children. Experience working with students with behavioral, developmental, or special education needs is preferred but not required. The candidate should be comfortable working as part of a collaborative team and following established student support and safety plans.
