Substitute Nurse

The School Nurse's main responsibility is to provide healthcare and address daily health concerns for students ranging from Preschool to 12th Grade.

Registered Nurse with an Associate's Degree (Bachelor's preferred). Valid Indiana Nursing License and CPR certification required. 3-5 years of nursing experience in a clinical setting (pediatrics or school nurse experience is a plus).

Ability to assess and treat minor injuries, illnesses, and emergencies. Clearly communicate with students, parents, and school staff. Handle sensitive health information with discretion. Manage student health records and documentation efficiently. Ability to respond quickly in emergencies. Provide care and comfort to students, especially in stressful situations. Adapt to different student needs and school environments. Assess situations and make quick, appropriate decisions regarding student health.

Understand and follow school health policies and procedures.

Be available to substitute as the school nurse at both North and South campuses as needed (

Hours:

7:45 AM - 3:30 PM). Provide professional assessment and treatment to ensure students' physical, social, and emotional well-being. Administer medications and provide emergency first aid to students and staff as required. Manage care for diabetic students, including glucose monitoring, addressing hypoglycemia and hyperglycemia, administering insulin, and calculating dosages. Maintain accurate student health records and serve as a resource for health education for students, staff, and families.

Follow OSHA standards for handling blood borne pathogens and other infectious materials across both campuses. Ensure compliance with national, state, and local health regulations and guidelines. Follow procedures for reporting and handling suspected cases of child abuse and neglect. Maintain clinic equipment and order necessary supplies. Communicate with students, parents, administrators, and staff about student medical needs. Prepare field trip medical bags and maintain updated medical release forms for students.

Primarily indoor work (90% of the time), with some outdoor exposure when moving between classrooms. Ability to remain stationary for long periods, especially when using a computer. Must be able to move supplies or equipment up to 35 pounds. Must assist children for health and safety reasons. Work environment may include noise, temperature and humidity changes, and frequent use of computers and monitors.
