Occupational Health & Safety, Regulatory Compliance Specialist
Job Description
Safety Engineer opportunity in the Greenwood, SC area for an EHS professional with 5+ years of progressive safety experience in a manufacturing environment. In this role, you will spend the majority of your time on the production floor identifying safety hazards around machining and automated equipment — press brakes, CNC machines, powder coating lines, light curtains, and interlocks — and developing the practical fix yourself, not just flagging the issue for someone else to solve.
The ideal candidate has an engineering or maintenance background and a genuine understanding of how the equipment operates, so they can tell the difference between something that looks risky and something that is actually unsafe without unnecessarily halting production. Join a well-established, growing manufacturer with a strong existing safety culture and a DART rate that already outperforms industry benchmarks, in a hands-on, collaborative environment.
This company offers competitive salary, benefits, bonus, and an excellent company culture.
Requirements:
- 5+ years of progressive EHS experience, preferably involving automated equipment, stamping, machining, fabrication, or powder coating
- Bachelor's degree in Safety Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Environmental Health, Occupational Safety, or related field (8+ years of experience will be considered in lieu of a degree)
- OSHA-30 certified
- Working knowledge of PLCs, machine controls, interlocks, guarding, light curtains, and emergency stops, with the ability to identify control-related hazards
- Strong knowledge of OSHA requirements, including machine guarding, lockout/tagout, electrical safety, PPE, hazardous materials, and environmental compliance
- Experience with ergonomic lifting and repetitive motion fatigue mitigation
- Experience with Powered Industrial Vehicle (PIV) training
- Comfortable working in an uncontrolled manufacturing environment (noise, dust, mobile equipment, uneven walking surfaces) for the majority of the shift
- Bilingual English/Spanish is not required but preferred
Responsibilities:
- Spend the majority of time on the production floor identifying safety hazards and proactively developing practical solutions, rather than delegating the fix to others
- Design, implement, and continuously improve safety protocols and procedures aligned with OSHA requirements and industry standards
- Conduct regular safety audits, hazard assessments, and root-cause analyses, and drive corrective actions to closure
- Lead investigations into accidents, injuries, and near-miss incidents; compile reports and partner with leadership on corrective action
- Develop and deliver safety training for employees, contractors, and new hires
- Maintain compliance with local, state, and federal safety regulations, staying current on changes in legislation and industry standards
- Propose new methods or technologies to enhance workplace safety without unnecessarily disrupting production
