Lieutenant Leath Correctional Institution, Greenwood; GREENWOOD Level 2

Responsibilities

• Under general supervision, plans, coordinates, and directs the actions of security staff and oversees security, custody, and control of inmates in a medium/maximum security correctional facility.
• Assumes primary responsibility for security of all buildings and public property as it relates to the Restricted Housing Unit (RHU) buildings and property.
• Performs security, randomly checks (4) cells for proper temperature and sanitation on shift, post checks and remains thoroughly familiar with security status of all RHU inmates and ensure officers/other security correctional employees are informed about inmates who require special supervision.
• Directs and supervises an inspection program to detect and correct deficiencies in security, safety, sanitation, and maintenance of RHU; to include that of subordinate officers to ensure proper job performance.

Must successfully complete eight (8) weeks of SCDC Basic Training upon hire.

A high school diploma and relevant experience. A bachelor’s degree in a related field may substitute for the required experience.

• A high school diploma three (3) years' experience in correctional, security, military, or police work to include one (1) year of supervisory experience.
• A degree in criminal justice or a related degree may substitute for supervisory experience year for year (associate and above = 1 year).
• Must be certified by the SCDC Training Academy and successfully complete the basic supervisory course within six (6) months of entry into the position.
