This position supports the agency's Data Modernization Initiative (DMI) efforts by increasing and improving data availability and access to data for decision making. Additionally, this position will assist epidemiologists and collaborate with IT staff in developing and deploying Red Cap projects as needs arise. This position also participates in the development and roll‑out of a new and more robust Electronic Disease Surveillance System (EDSS), including data validation.

Participate in data management and validation efforts for a new Electronic Disease Surveillance System (EDSS).

Develop, modify, maintain, and run R and python scripts to prepare data for analysis and visualization and respond to data requests. Cross trains staff to ensure sustainability of these functions.

Develop and support Red Cap projects for routine or ad hoc needs.

Performs other related duties and special projects as assigned, including required travel if requested, and responds as directed during emergencies which may occur outside normal work hours, and travel if requested.

Minimum Requirements:

A bachelor's degree and professional experience related to the position.

Any equivalent combination of education and/or experience that demonstrates the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered in meeting the minimum qualifications, subject to approval by the SCDPH Chief Human Resources Officer, or their delegate.

Degree in epidemiology, biostatistics, mathematics, data science, or a closely related field and relevant working experience is preferred. Knowledge of programming languages is preferred.

HYBRID WORK:

The option to work partially remote or adjusted work hours may be available after 12 months of employment for approved positions.
