Job Overview
Industrial Engineer (Automotive / Transmission)
Responsibilities- Leverage automotive engineering knowledge while working closely with customer representatives and ensure that major customer complaints are resolved.
- Determine root cause of failure from customer transmission returns and lead quality and problem‑solving activities to eliminate the impact of non‑conforming product in accordance with the customer’s specified process.
- Interpret engineering specifications for products to determine performance requirements to meet or exceed customer expectations.
- Review manufacturing processes and assess product quality to determine adequacy, capability and compliance with customer specifications and company specifications.
- Participate in FMEA, Design Validation (DV), Production Validation (PV), and process launch teams.
- Create and maintain documentation for product/process change management.
- Assess effectiveness of plant‑wide quality systems including training for ongoing improvements.
- Develop and maintain documents and procedures related to quality standards, risk analysis, and lessons learned from product recalls, audits, field returns and repairs, complaints, scrap, and rework.
- Analyze data to detect quality problems and recommend corrective actions.
- Conduct and develop preventative programs to reduce defects in major quality control areas.
- Utilize basic quality tools along with problem solving and lean manufacturing techniques in the support of continuous improvement, root cause analysis, and corrective/preventive actions.
- Initiate, complete, and ensure proper conformity of engineering changes to quality standards.
- Manage and maintain internal and customer KPIs relevant to customer quality and satisfaction.
- Improve customer product quality through creation, assignment, and management of customer and product conformity audit 8D to completion.
- Support Engineering staff in troubleshooting, maintaining, and repairing all aspects of transmission testing (including Kuka Robots, motor drives, testing and data acquisition equipment, and multiple energy forms).
- Read and interpret electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic prints to resolve breakdowns.
- Utilize multiple PLC/PC software to recover and modify machines as needed.
- Provide technical support to ensure equipment is in a constant state of readiness.
- Develop and implement test bench training plans for technicians.
- Work on Preventive Maintenance (PM) and Engineering Projects.
- Audit and report completion of test benches across assembly lines.
- Assist in the PM/Project planning.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or closely related field.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in quality control or quality assurance within a manufacturing environment.
- Experience in maintaining key customer relationships and customer‑specific regulatory requirements.
- Proficiency with OEM Customer Portals in Microsoft Edge, Power BI, Sharepoint, Axalant, S-CASE, Simatic IT, SAP, and tools such as 8
Ds, 3X5 WHY, 5P, A3, Six Sigma, Shainin, Lean Manufacturing, Ishikawa, Value Stream Mapping, Failure Tree Analysis. - Knowledge of IATF core tools including SPC, DFMEA, P‑FMEA, Control Plans, APQP, PPAP, MSA.
- Experience with metal castings, machining and assembly processes for drivetrain technologies, and plastic injection molding; familiarity with GD&T.
- Associate’s degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Mechatronics, Industrial Maintenance or related field; minimum 4 years of experience in mechanical engineering occupations; demonstrated experience with IMTRON, PLC, PASU, HBK Torque monitoring, pneumatics, hydraulics, test benches, 8HP & 9HP test benches, electrical and mechanical prints.
- Preferred: experience with IATF tools and automotive transmission manufacturing.
