Aerospace Quality Engineer

We are seeking an Aerospace Quality Engineer to serve as the engineer for AS9102 First-Article Inspections (FAIs) supporting K 's assurance services in the Greer, SC area. The role involves working directly with customers and K  to meet quality standards and schedule expectations.

Responsibilities
  • Reviews and conducts First Article Inspections (FAIs).
  • Provides onsite and remote support at customer/supplier sites.
  • Assigns, tracks, and manages First-Article Inspection assignments of the K  team.
  • Coordinates with customers to determine schedule, requirements, and specific needs for projects and inspections.
  • Uses AS9102 FAI generating software.
  • Provides estimates, quotes, and feedback to customers during the proposal process.
  • Conducts tests, inspections, audits, and validations to ensure process compliance with contract, K , and customer requirements and specifications for design, engineering, products, equipment, maintenance, and services.
  • Conducts source inspections, evaluations, and surveillance of vendors, suppliers, and subcontractors.
  • Uses inspection tools, measuring and test equipment.
  • Conducts sampling inspections per approved plans and procedures.
  • Participates in root-cause analysis.
  • Performs follow-up audits to review the effectiveness of corrective actions.
  • Collects and analyzes statistical data for monitoring and evaluating trends.
  • Maintains and updates QMS documents and quality contents.
  • Provides training and tutoring to other engineering personnel, suppliers, and contract personnel in First-Article Inspection and Six Sigma techniques.
  • Provides technical leadership to implement advanced quality processes including statistically based variation reduction, control planning, mistake proofing, and Manufacturing Process Control.
  • Prepares and presents metrics associated with quality trends and related improvements within the customer base.
  • Prepares progress reports, program reviews, and activity and status reports to management.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Ability to prepare AS9102 First Article Inspections, including ballooned drawings and Forms 1, 2, and 3.
  • Experience supporting related FAI activities such as reviews, measurements, and expediting.
  • Capability to review build operations and PFMEAs, recommending improvements to reduce scrap, minimize notifications, and mitigate audit findings.
  • Experience conducting root cause and corrective action (RCCA) activities in collaboration with quality and manufacturing engineering.
  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in engineering, materials, supply chain, management, business or technical discipline, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in manufacturing/assembly operations, quality, engineering (design or manufacturing), and materials/procurement; preferably in aerospace electronics, or related military experience.
  • Self-starting ability and can work with minimal supervision.
  • Experience leading teams focused on problem solving and improvements.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • High analytical ability to identify and evaluate appropriate actions for complex problems.
  • Ability to assess and analyze risk daily.
  • Preferred:
    Proven track record working closely with suppliers.
  • Preferred:
    Certified Green Belt or equivalent;
    Lean Expert or Black Belt.
  • Preferred:
    Experience with Automotive or Aerospace products.
  • Preferred:
    Additional experience or training in RCCA, Process Mapping, FMEAs, Control Plans or APQP/PPAP.
  • Preferred:
    Experience using Six Sigma Plus tools.
