The purpose of the class is to assist in supervising daily Detention Center operations within an assigned division, ensuring the safety and security of inmates, staff and the citizens of Richland County through the enforcement of proper jail policies and procedures; to coordinate and provide officer training; and to perform related law enforcement, administrative and supervisory work as required. The class works within a general outline of work to be performed, and develops work methods and sequences under general supervision.
Requires high school diploma or GED equivalent supplemented by formal training, special courses or self-education that is equivalent to satisfactory completion of one year of college education or specialized advanced training in criminal justice, law enforcement, corrections, or a closely related field.
Must possess and maintain Jail Officer certification from the S.C. Criminal Justice Academy.
Must possess CPR / First Aid certifications.
Must possess a valid state driver’s license.
Must meet other requirements as set forth in applicable South Carolina statutes and regulations.
Requires over three years and up to and including five years.
