A growing global automotive supplier supporting a major OEM launch project in the South Carolina market is seeking an Environmental Health, Safety & Quality Systems Engineer to support the startup and long-term development of a new manufacturing operation.
This is a unique opportunity to join a facility during launch and early growth stages, helping establish safety programs, quality systems, compliance processes, training initiatives, and operational standards from the ground floor up.
The role will support both Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) initiatives and Quality Management System (QMS) activities within a fast-paced automotive manufacturing environment. The position reports into plant quality leadership and will work cross-functionally with operations, engineering, manufacturing, contractors, and leadership teams throughout the startup process.
This is not a role focused strictly on "paper compliance." The company is looking for someone who enjoys being involved on the manufacturing floor, helping build systems, solving problems, improving processes, and supporting a positive operational culture during plant launch activities.
Key Responsibilities Environmental Health & Safety- Assist in the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of plant EHS programs, policies, and procedures
- Support OSHA compliance and manufacturing safety initiatives throughout startup and operational phases
- Conduct safety inspections, audits, hazard assessments, and risk evaluations
- Coordinate safety-related training including:
- PPE
- Lockout/Tagout
- Hazard Communication
- Emergency Response
- Forklift Safety
- General Manufacturing Safety Awareness
- Lead or support safety committee activities and employee engagement initiatives
- Maintain OSHA logs, safety documentation, incident reporting, and corrective action tracking
- Participate in incident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective action implementation
- Support contractor safety activities during ongoing startup and facility development projects
- Assist with emergency preparedness planning, evacuation drills, and response procedures
- Promote a strong safety culture throughout operations
- Support development and maintenance of the Quality Management System (QMS)
- Assist with compliance activities tied to:
- IATF 16949
- ISO 9001
- VDA 6.3
- customer-specific automotive requirements
- Maintain controlled documents, procedures, work instructions, and quality records
- Coordinate or support internal audit activities and audit schedules
- Participate in customer audits and third-party certification activities
- Assist with corrective actions, process improvement initiatives, and operational compliance support
- Support APQP, PPAP, PFMEA, Control Plans, and related automotive quality activities as needed
- Bachelor’s degree, Associate degree, or equivalent manufacturing experience
- Experience with in automotive manufacturing, industrial manufacturing, or startup manufacturing operations
- Exposure to EHS, OSHA, quality systems, audits, compliance, or manufacturing operations
- Automotive Tier 1 or Tier 2 supplier experience preferred
- Familiarity with manufacturing quality systems and operational safety requirements
- Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills
