The Carolina Center for Behavioral Health, a 156‑bed private behavioral health system located on 13 acres in the Greenville, South Carolina Area, is seeking a Director of Business Development to join our team of dedicated professionals.

Responsibilities

The Director of Business Development oversees the provision of sales, marketing, and customer service activities within the Marketing Department. The Director is responsible for achieving the desired utilization of the organization’s continuum of care through the effective application of marketing principles and methods. As a member of the facility management team, the Director is actively involved in discussions related to a wide variety of facility issues including strategic planning, potential growth opportunities, future projects, changes in programming/protocols, recruitment, and retention.

The Director is responsible for the facility’s strategic marketing plan, enhancing the facility’s brand/image, managing all sales and business development activities, and maintaining an active and productive working relationship with internal departments and communicating issues or potential problems proactively, especially with the CEO and Director of Admissions/Intake. Hours are based on departmental and facility needs and may include day, evening, and weekend hours as directed by the CEO/Managing Director.

Job Functions
  • Oversee the development and growth of profitable new business opportunities; develop and implement marketing strategies to assist the facility in meeting business objectives.
  • Serve as the liaison, under the direction of the CEO and CFO, between the facility and payer entities and in a manner consistent with corporate expectations.
  • Make contacts with referral sources and establish appropriate professional relationships with potential and current referral sources; maintain a personal “book of business” and make face‑to‑face field‑based contacts weekly, exclusive of field coaching ride‑alonges.
  • Strategically analyze and designate target markets for account managers and territory/account assignments, considering each account manager’s strengths and weaknesses and ensuring their expertise and personal style are insightfully matched to prospective referral sources.
  • Maintain a general working knowledge of the target markets utilized for referrals and a comprehensive knowledge of the status of specific target markets.

Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s degree in marketing, business or related field required;
Master’s degree preferred.

Experience: Prior marketing and/or sales experience within a behavioral healthcare setting preferred; three to five years minimum documented experience in referral development, account management, sales growth, and physician relationships preferred.

Additional Requirements: Must possess a valid driver’s license. Preference for knowledge of Upstate South Carolina and Western North Carolina behavioral health marketplace, insurance plans, target markets and referral sources, psychiatric and chemical dependency treatment, and age‑specific programming. Must possess demonstrated business development concepts, sales abilities, competency in computer usage, excellent written and oral communication skills; knowledge of and skills in application of marketing and sales principles;

creativity and flexibility; skills in data collection, analysis and interpretation; record of adherence to deadlines; customer service skills; willingness to travel, including overnight travel as required.
