Position Description
Position Summary
The Mechanic II is a mid-level role responsible for performing inspections, preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and moderately complex repairs on heavy-duty trucks, construction equipment, and other company vehicles. This position requires greater independence than Mechanic I and the ability to handle a wider range of repairs with minimal supervision. The Mechanic II also assists in training junior mechanics and ensuring that all work meets company, DOT, and OSHA standards.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Perform preventative maintenance and scheduled servicing of vehicles and equipment, including oil changes, lubrication, filter replacements, and system inspections.
- Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and basic electrical issues.
- Replace or repair defective parts such as brakes, clutches, hydraulic hoses, cylinders, bearings, and belts.
- Conduct DOT inspections and ensure compliance with all safety and regulatory requirements.
- Use diagnostic tools and service manuals to identify problems and recommend solutions.
- Perform minor welding, cutting, and fabrication when needed.
- Assist in overhauls of major components such as engines, transmissions, and hydraulic systems under guidance from senior mechanics.
- Maintain detailed maintenance and repair records for all serviced equipment.
- Ensure proper use and maintenance of tools, equipment, and work areas.
- Follow all company safety policies and procedures and correct unsafe practices immediately.
Position Requirements
Qualifications & Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical training in diesel, heavy equipment, or automotive repair preferred.
- 3-5 years of relevant experience as a mechanic, preferably in heavy equipment or diesel repair.
- Strong working knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and diagrams.
- Proficiency with diagnostic tools and repair equipment.
- Welding and fabrication skills preferred.
- Valid driver's license; CDL preferred; clean 10 year MVR
- Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and maneuver heavy tools and parts.
- Ability to bend, crouch, kneel, push, pull, and reach as needed for repairs.
- Work in high-noise environments and around heavy equipment.
