Position Description

Position Summary

The Mechanic II is a mid-level role responsible for performing inspections, preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and moderately complex repairs on heavy-duty trucks, construction equipment, and other company vehicles. This position requires greater independence than Mechanic I and the ability to handle a wider range of repairs with minimal supervision. The Mechanic II also assists in training junior mechanics and ensuring that all work meets company, DOT, and OSHA standards.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

• Perform preventative maintenance and scheduled servicing of vehicles and equipment, including oil changes, lubrication, filter replacements, and system inspections.
• Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and basic electrical issues.
• Replace or repair defective parts such as brakes, clutches, hydraulic hoses, cylinders, bearings, and belts.
• Conduct DOT inspections and ensure compliance with all safety and regulatory requirements.
• Use diagnostic tools and service manuals to identify problems and recommend solutions.
• Perform minor welding, cutting, and fabrication when needed.
• Assist in overhauls of major components such as engines, transmissions, and hydraulic systems under guidance from senior mechanics.
• Maintain detailed maintenance and repair records for all serviced equipment.
• Ensure proper use and maintenance of tools, equipment, and work areas.
• Follow all company safety policies and procedures and correct unsafe practices immediately.

Provide guidance and support to Mechanic I personnel and assist in their development.

Position Requirements

Qualifications & Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent; technical training in diesel, heavy equipment, or automotive repair preferred.
• 3-5 years of relevant experience as a mechanic, preferably in heavy equipment or diesel repair.
• Strong working knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems.
• Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and diagrams.
• Proficiency with diagnostic tools and repair equipment.
• Welding and fabrication skills preferred.
• Valid driver's license; CDL preferred; clean 10 year MVR
• Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen.

Physical Requirements & Work Environment

• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and maneuver heavy tools and parts.
• Ability to bend, crouch, kneel, push, pull, and reach as needed for repairs.
• Work in high-noise environments and around heavy equipment.

Ability to work in both indoor and outdoor conditions, sometimes in extreme weather.
