Job Overview
Under the general supervision of the Mental Health Program Manager, the specialized mental health agent will serve as the first line of supervision for a caseload primarily consisting of individuals living with a mental illness. The agent maintains a professional communication network with internal and external stakeholders, advocates on behalf of those supervised to seek or maintain stability, and maintains effective knowledge of all areas of mental health supervision, programs, policies, and protocols.
The agent participates in trainings and maintains all requirements for Mental Health Certification.
- A bachelor's degree with at least 15 semester hours in social or behavioral science courses and experience in probation and parole work.
- An associate’s degree and two (2) years of military or certified law enforcement experience (including Class 1 or Offender Supervision Specialist experience) may be substituted.
- A high school diploma and four (4) years of military or certified law enforcement experience (including Class 1 or Offender Supervision Specialist experience) may be substituted.
Special Requirements
- Certification by the Law Enforcement Training Council in accordance with 23-23-40 of the Code of Laws of South Carolina 1976.
- Must be currently a Class 1 (C-1) certified law enforcement officer from the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy.
- Additional education: A bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, social work, psychology, sociology, education, counseling or other social behavior sciences (or comparable) with 15 credit hours in relevant disciplines and two (2) years of experience in criminal justice, counseling, or related work.
This is an entirely on‑site, in‑office position.
