Position: Mental Health Agent #26-114

Berkeley & Charleston

Under the general supervision of the Mental Health Program Manager, the specialized mental health agent will serve as the first line of supervision for a caseload primarily consisting of individuals living with a mental illness. The agent will maintain a professional communication network with internal and external stakeholders, advocate on behalf of those supervised to seek or maintain stability, and maintain effective knowledge of all areas of mental health supervision, programs, policies, and protocols.

The agent will participate in trainings and meet all requirements for Mental Health Certification.

Qualifications

A bachelor’s degree with at least 15 semester hours in social or behavioral science courses and experience in probation and parole work. An associate’s degree and two (2) years of military or certified law enforcement experience (including Class 1 or Offender Supervision Specialist experience) may be substituted; alternatively, a high school diploma and four (4) years of military or certified law enforcement experience (including Class 1 or Offender Supervision Specialist experience) may be substituted.

A bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, social work, psychology, sociology, education, counseling, or other social behavior sciences, or a bachelor’s degree with at least 15 credit hours in the aforementioned disciplines and completion of two (2) years of experience in criminal justice, counseling, or related professional human service work.

Special Requirements
  • Certification by the Law Enforcement Training Council in accordance with 23-23-40 of the Code of Laws of South Carolina 1976.
  • Must be currently a Class 1 (C‑1) certified law enforcement officer from the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy.
