Operates diesel or gas powered buses, cars or vans to transport students to and from home, on field trips and to health care or other facilities as needed. Ensures that students are transported in a safe and timely manner.
Maintains bus for cleanliness and comfort. Washes bus on a regular basis ensuring that lights, mirrors and windows are clean. Cleans interior of vehicle upon completion of trip, removing all trash and unwanted materials. Performs light routine maintenance on equipment, reporting any problem areas or repairs needed. Properly maintains emergency equipment such as first aid kit, fire extinguisher, body fluid kit, reflectors and web cutter.
Refuels bus and checks fluid levels.
Current and valid CDL, School Bus Certificate and DOT Physical. An acceptable ten year driving history from the SC DMV under State Fleet Management (SFM) and SC Dept. of Education - Transportation (SCDOE-T) guidelines and policies. Experience in the operation or maintenance of motorized vehicles. This position may require communication modalities dependent upon employment placement.
Must maintain a valid SC Driver's License with proper endorsements for school bus operation and current DOT Health Card. Must maintain a good driving record with no more than 4 current points for violations. Will be required to successfully complete Defensive Driving Course (DDC) to comply with State Fleet Management regulations for driving a State vehicle. Must have the ability to work with clients who are deaf, blind or sensory multi-disabled.
Overnight travel as well as weekend work will be required, depending on the bus route assignment. Some heavy lifting is required, up to 125lbs, as well as working outdoors in all types of weather. Must be able to pass & maintain the Physical Performance Test (PPT), as mandated by Federal regulations for all drivers.
