Room Attendant – Housekeeping Department
St. George’s University invites applicants for the position of Room Attendant within the Housekeeping Department.
Special note to applicants- Review of applications will be ongoing until candidates are identified.
The goal of the Room Attendant is to create a clean and orderly environment for our students, faculty, and staff and to demonstrate commitment to the values of St. George’s University, its administrators, students, and members of the public who interact with the University. The Room Attendant will collaborate with the University Management Team and the staff of his/her department in carrying out the duties.
EssentialFunctions
- Clean, sanitize and service offices, dormitories, walkways, hallways, lecture halls, study halls, and classrooms daily, including wiping doors and creases, windows, window ledges, glass panes and glass doors.
- Wipe deck and lounge chairs.
- Clean mats in front of dorms, lecture halls and offices.
- Clean laundry area to include wiping down washing machines and dryers.
- Collect and dispose of all waste and refuse in designated areas including laundry room, dormitories, lecture halls and restaurants using the appropriate bags and bins.
- Sweep, mop and scrub all floors, corridors, and hallways, including flooded areas.
- Clean all light fixtures, fire extinguishers and light fixers.
- Remove cobwebs and dust.
- Complete deep cleaning as assigned.
- Complete weekly and monthly shampooing of all carpets.
- Complete daily check list and report to Department Manager or supervisor any irregularities in the working areas such as burnt‑out light bulbs, broken doors, debris lying around, broken windows, etc.
- In addition, the Room Attendant will perform any other job‑related assignments that may be given from time to time by the Housekeeping Supervisor or Manager.
- Ability to work independently, as part of a team and collaborate effectively with others.
- Strong communication skills, time management, customer service skills and a demonstrated high level of trustworthiness, discretion, and loyalty.
- Ability to listen to and understand information presented through spoken words and written communication.
- Ability to communicate information and ideas orally so others will understand.
- Ability to work with little supervision while maintaining high-performance standards.
- Must be well organized and detail oriented.
- Knowledge of occupational health and safety protocols.
- Ability to follow instructions and solve problems.
- High School Education.
- Must be literate and numerate.
- This job is performed in dormitories, offices, lecture halls and labs that requires efficiency, quietness, and collaboration.
- This job requires lifting to at least 50 pounds.
- This job involves a lot of movements, standing, bending, and reaching with your hands.
- Involves moving from different areas on the compound at times.
- No travel is expected for this position.
- A typical work week is 40 hours per week with flexible start, break and end of day.
