The OpportunityReporting to the Director of Finance, the Controller / Sr. Accounting Manager will oversee day-to-day accounting operations while helping strengthen internal processes, develop staff capability, improve financial reporting, and support organizational effectiveness.
The role combines technical accounting expertise with leadership, coaching, and operational improvement responsibilities.
For the right individual, the position offers close partnership with experienced finance leadership and meaningful room to contribute as the organization evolves.
What You'll Do Accounting & Financial Operations- Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual close activities.
- Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting in accordance with GAAP.
- Oversee general ledger, reconciliations, payroll, AP/AR, and cash management activities.
- Strengthen accounting procedures and internal controls.
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
- Support annual financial audit and Single Audit preparation in partnership with the Director of Finance.
- Manage accounting and reporting for federal, state, local, and private grant funding.
- Ensure compliance with nonprofit accounting standards and funding requirements.
- Support grant budgeting, monitoring, reporting, and financial stewardship.
- Partner with program leadership to improve financial visibility and accountability.
- Lead, mentor, and develop a growing accounting team.
- Provide coaching and professional development.
- Help establish clear responsibilities, expectations, and accountability.
- Foster collaboration and cross-functional teamwork.
- Build bench strength through training and knowledge sharing, particularly with accounting systems (MIP).
- Improve workflows and financial procedures.
- Support ongoing efforts to centralize and standardize accounting operations.
- Create documentation, training tools, and repeatable processes.
- Partner with leadership to improve operational effectiveness and communication across departments.
