Qualifications:
State of Oregon Teaching License with Special Education PK-12 endorsement and current First Aid Card.
Compensation:
Salary and stipends will be prorated based on FTE and start/end dates of the position.

- Instruct students with individualized special needs to develop academic, interpersonal, self management, and daily living skills (e.g. toileting/hygiene) through a defined course of study
- Manage classroom and individual student behavior to provide a safe and optimal learning environment
- Prepare teaching materials and reports (e.g. IEPs, Functional Behavior Assessments, Behavior Intervention Plans, grades, attendance, anecdotal records, progress reports) for implementing lesson plans and documenting progress
- Assess students for eligibility into special education
- Assess students' social and academic needs to evaluate learning and support requirements, placement and success of the program
- Collaborate with school personnel and community agencies to maximize student outcomes and plan curriculum
- Direct instructional assistants, volunteers, and/or student aides to support an effective program
- Adapt lessons to meet IEP goals and the needs of students
- Advise parents/guardians of student progress to support expectations and home reinforcement
- Facilitate special education meetings for assigned students with or suspected of having disabilities
- Ensure required timelines, processes, and documentation follow district policy and state law
- Report incidents for safety and policy adherence; maintain student confidentiality
- Attend promptly and regularly
- Administer medication, first aid and/or health care as required
- Assist other personnel as needed to support work activities
- Participate in meetings (e.g. parent conferences, in-service, site meetings) to share information and meet credential requirements
Job Requirements - Qualifications
- Knowledge of current federal and state laws pertaining to the provision of special education
- Skills to motivate students, communicate with diverse audiences, direct support personnel, evaluate performance, and address student health care needs
- Knowledge of and ability to work with all special education eligibilities (learning, severe, communication, visually/physically handicapped), age-appropriate teaching methods, state curriculum framework, and education code
- Ability to stand and walk for prolonged periods; organize and facilitate meetings; maintain records; cooperate with students, parents, and school personnel; meet deadlines
- Ability to communicate effectively under stress; model appropriate school behavior
- Physical abilities include lifting/carrying/moving immobile students, interventions as needed, stooping, reaching, talking and hearing, and visual acuity
- Teaching credential for Special Education appropriate level and No Child Left Behind Highly Qualified status;
First aid/CPR, and fingerprint clearance
