Position Summary

The K–12 Assistant Principal supports students, families, and staff in creating a positive and engaging online learning experience at Metro East Web Academy. This position works closely with teachers, counselors, student support staff, and administration to strengthen student engagement, academic success, attendance, and overall school culture.

The Assistant Principal helps support the day-to-day operations of the school while building strong relationships with students and families, supporting staff, and helping move school initiatives forward in a collaborative and student-centered way.

Essential

Job Responsibilities Instructional Leadership
  • Support high-quality online instruction aligned with state standards and MEWA expectations
  • Collaborate with teachers to improve student engagement, attendance, and academic growth
  • Support the thoughtful use of instructional technology and emerging tools, including AI-supported resources
  • Participate in classroom observations, coaching conversations, and instructional feedback
  • Assist with planning and facilitating professional development related to online teaching and student engagement
  • Help maintain consistency in Canvas course design and virtual instructional practices
Student Engagement & Attendance
  • Support school wide attendance and engagement efforts
  • Monitor student participation and help develop intervention plans for students who are struggling to engage
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, counselors, mentors, SPED, ESOL, and student support staff to identify barriers impacting student success
  • Help build systems that promote student connection, belonging, and persistence in an online setting
  • Support restorative, relationship-based approaches to student behavior and discipline
Student Support Services
  • Collaborate closely with SPED, 504, ESOL, counseling, mentor, and student success teams
  • Support compliance related to special education and student support services
  • Help coordinate academic, behavioral, attendance, and social-emotional interventions
  • Promote equitable access to learning opportunities and supports for all students
Family & Community Engagement
  • Build positive, collaborative relationships with students and families
  • Support family outreach related to attendance, academic progress, and student well-being
  • Assist families in navigating online learning systems and expectations
  • Help facilitate outreach and family engagement opportunities
  • Respond to family and community concerns in a timely and solutions-focused manner
Staff Leadership & Collaboration
  • Help foster a positive, collaborative, and supportive staff culture
  • Participate in hiring, onboarding, mentoring, and supporting staff
  • Support collaboration and communication across departments
  • Facilitate meetings, committees, and collaborative problem-solving teams as assigned
  • Encourage innovation, creativity, and continuous improvement
Operations & Compliance
  • Support implementation of school policies, procedures, and state requirements
  • Assist with compliance related to attendance, instructional time, and student documentation
  • Help maintain systems that support organization, communication, and accountability in an online environment
  • Support student discipline processes aligned with MEWA policies and restorative practices
Preferred Qualifications Education & Licensure
  • Master’s degree in Educational Leadership or related field
  • Valid Oregon Administrative License
  • Valid Oregon Teaching License preferred
Experience
  • Minimum of 3–5 years of successful teaching experience
  • Experience in online, blended, alternative, or innovative learning environments preferred
  • Experience supporting diverse student populations, including SPED, 504, ESOL, and credit recovery options
  • Prior leadership experience such as instructional coach, department lead, dean, or program coordinator preferred
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Understanding of virtual learning environments and online instructional best practices
