Job Overview
EKT is a two-week summer program at SUN schools that offers children and families a jump-start into a successful kindergarten year. The program focuses on academics, play, arts and music, exploration and developing friendships in an inclusive and joyful classroom. The program has two components: a two-week program for incoming kindergarten students and family education sessions that are required. EKT partners with SUN and Multnomah County to offer the program.
The role of parent class educator plans and leads activities for parents and guardians of EKT students to foster connections, build confidence in supporting their child, and shares helpful resources. This position requires prior experience in teaching adults.
EKT program dates:
Mondays-Thursdays beginning Aug 4 through Aug 15.
- Attend all onboarding and training prior to the program.
- Paid preparation and training after school/evenings prior to the start of the program.
- Plan and attend the family orientation meeting the week prior to the program.
- Plan and facilitate parent classes for parents and guardians.
- Facilitate 8 hours of parent education sessions; the length of each class and the number of days per week is flexible.
- Plan, prepare and facilitate activities/classes for parents/guardians of children in the EKT program that support a successful transition into kindergarten.
- Teach adults how to support their child in kindergarten and develop routines.
- Foster a supportive environment for families to learn and grow.
- Recruit students and families for the program in collaboration with the SUN site manager.
- Consult and collaborate with the classroom teacher to align instruction and bring in guest speakers.
- Create a welcoming, engaging, and joyful kindergarten transition program.
- Collect and report data.
- State of Oregon TSPC license with applicable authorization, proper endorsement, and highly qualified status.
- Current first-aid card.
