Location: Hollydale Elementary School
Contract: 66 Contract Days, Temporary School Year, 1.00 FTE
Qualifications- State of Oregon Teaching License with Special Education endorsement
- Current First Aid Card
- Teaching Credential for Special Education appropriate level of instruction and No Child Left Behind Highly Qualified status
- First Aid/CPR, Criminal Justice Fingerprint Clearance
- Annual Salary Range $17,994 - $37,394 (195/196 Day Contract). Initial placement on the salary schedule is based on education and contracted licensed experience.
- Eligible for a specialty stipend of $1,023 for the School Year.
- Eligible for a specialty stipend of $687 if certified Multilingual in Spanish, Arabic, Ukrainian, American Sign Language, or Russian (must pass a standardized proficiency test).
The job of "Teacher - Special Education" is performed to facilitate Special Education student success in the least restrictive environment in academics, interpersonal/social skills, self management, and activities of daily living. Responsibilities include implementing district‑approved curriculum; documenting teaching and student progress/activities, outcomes; addressing specific needs of students; providing a safe and optimal learning environment; and providing feedback to students, parents, and administration regarding student progress, expectations, goals, and ensuring access to general education curriculum and non‑disabled peers to the greatest extent possible.
EssentialJob Functions
- Instruct students with individualized special needs for the purpose of developing appropriate academic, interpersonal, self management, and daily living skills.
- Manage classroom and individual student behavior to provide a safe and optimal learning environment.
- Prepare teaching materials and reports (e.g., Individualized Education Plans, Functional Behavior Assessments, Behavior Intervention Plans, grades, attendance, anecdotal records, progress reports) for lesson implementation and documentation.
- Assess students for eligibility into special education.
- Assess students' social and academic needs to evaluate learning and support requirements, placement, and program success.
- Collaborate with school personnel and community agencies to develop and modify programs and curriculum.
- Direct instructional assistants, volunteers, and/or student aides to address individual student needs.
- Adapt lessons to implement IEP goals and meet special needs.
- Advise parents/legal guardians of student progress to support expectations and reinforce goals at home.
- Facilitate special education meetings for assigned students.
- Ensure required timelines, processes, and procedures, documentation, and student record requirements are followed per district policy and state law.
- Report incidents (e.g., fights, suspected child abuse, suspected substance abuse) to maintain student safety and meet Education Code, district, and school policies.
- Maintain student confidentiality in verbal, written, electronic, and filing/organizational strategies.
- Maintain prompt and regular attendance.
- Administer medication, first aid, and/or health care requirements as needed.
- Assist other personnel in completing their work activities.
- Participate in meetings, such as parent conferences, in‑service training, site meetings, to share and receive information or meet credential requirements.
Job Requirements – Qualifications
- Knowledge of current federal and state laws pertaining to special education.
- Skills to motivate students, communicate across diverse backgrounds, direct support personnel, evaluate performance, and address student health care needs.
- Knowledge of all special education eligibilities and age‑appropriate teaching methods, state curriculum framework, and education code.
- Physical abilities: stand and walk prolonged periods; lift/carry/transfer immobile students; perform physical interventions; stoop/crouch; reach/handle/fingering; talk/hear conversations; near/far visual acuity and color vision.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative relationships with students, parents, and school personnel; meet scheduling deadlines.
- Communicate effectively under stressful conditions and model appropriate school behavior.
