Teacher – High School, Biology (Gresham High School) – 97 contract days, 1.00 FTE, temporary contract for the school year.
Job SummaryThe role of the Teacher – High School focuses on developing students’ academic skills through the implementation of the district‑approved curriculum, documenting teaching and student progress, addressing specific educational needs, and providing a safe learning environment. The teacher also supplies feedback to students, parents, and administration regarding student progress and classroom expectations.
Essential Job Functions- Help each pupil develop competence in subject‑matter skills and motivate them to apply understanding in problem solving.
- Teach courses to secondary students using the board‑adopted course of study and appropriate curriculum publications.
- Instruct pupils in citizenship, basic communication skills, and other general elements of the course of study as required by state law.
- Develop lesson plans and lesson‑specific instructional aids.
- Demonstrate concepts using models, the chalkboard, overhead projector, and other standard or teacher‑prepared aids.
- Provide individualized and small‑group instruction to adapt the curriculum to each pupil’s needs.
- Design learning activities that relate the subject area to the physical world.
- Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior to provide an orderly, productive classroom environment.
- Evaluate each pupil’s progress and prepare progress reports; may prepare letters of recommendation for scholarships or college applications.
- Perform basic attendance accounting and other required business services.
- Plan and coordinate the work of aides, teacher assistants, or other paraprofessionals.
- Communicate with parents about contemporary teaching methods and discuss individual student progress with parents and counselors.
- Identify pupil needs and collaborate with other professional staff to address health, attitude, and learning problems.
- Supervise pupils in out‑of‑classroom activities during the assigned working day.
- Maintain professional competence through district‑provided in‑service education or self‑selected professional growth activities.
- Duties and responsibilities may be added, deleted, or changed at any time at the discretion of management.
- Maintain prompt and regular attendance.
- Assist other personnel as required to support the completion of their work activities.
- Participate in various meetings (e.g., parent conferences, in‑service training, site meetings) to meet credential requirements.
- Select and requisition books, instructional aids, and instructional supplies while maintaining required inventory records.
- Participate in curriculum and other developmental programs within the school and/or on a district level; may teach under modular or flexible scheduling plans.
- Share in the sponsorship of student activities and participate in faculty committees.
- Experience: Prior job related experience.
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree.
- Licenses, Bonding and Testing:
- Teaching Credential for appropriate level of instruction and/or subjects.
- Highly Qualified Status for assignment.
- Criminal Justice fingerprint clearance.
- Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and First Aid Certificates.
- Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:
- Skill to motivate students, communicate with diverse individuals, direct support personnel, and evaluate performance.
- Knowledge of age‑appropriate teaching methods, the state curriculum framework, education code, and appropriate instructional subjects.
- Ability to stand and walk for prolonged periods; perform a variety of specialized tasks; maintain records and cooperative relationships with students, parents, and school personnel; meet schedules and deadlines; and perform the physical demands of the role (lifting, carrying, reaching, handling, speaking, hearing, near/far vision).
- Other Requirements: Bilingual preferred;
State of Oregon Teaching License with Biology, Physics, or Integrated Science K‑12 endorsement and a current First Aid Card. - Specialty stipend of $1,010 for licensed employees certified in multilingual Spanish, Arabic, Ukrainian, American Sign Language, or Russian by passing a standardized proficiency test.
- Compensation: 2026‑2027 Annual Salary Range $26,446 – $54,959 (based on a 192/193‑day contract); salary and stipends prorated based on FTE and start/end dates.
