Salary Range: $25.09 to $34.38/hour

PositionSummary
The Educational Assistant Special Education provides educational supports through instruction and supervision of students with disabilities under the direct supervision of special education teacher, specialist and/or classroom teacher; completes routine clerical tasks for teachers; and assists students by providing for special health care needs.
Minimum Qualifications- Prior job‑related experience, paid or volunteer, with school age children.
- Completed associate or higher degree, completed at least two years of study at an institution of higher education (72 quarter hours or more) or met a rigorous standard of quality and can demonstrate, through a formal state or local academic assessment, knowledge of and ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics.
- Criminal Justice Fingerprint Clearance, First Aid/CPR card, and Bloodborne Pathogen training.
- Principles of child development and instructional practices.
- Basic clerical functions and arithmetic calculations.
- Computer programs and applications such as email, system applications, and word processing.
- Effective communication in English, both verbally and in writing.
- Understanding and application of rules, regulations, and policies.
- Carrying out verbal and written instructions.
- Providing for special health care needs of students.
- Addressing students with special needs.
- Rapidly learning methods and materials used in a variety of instructional situations.
- Self‑starter who works well independently or in a team.
- Planning, prioritizing, and completing assignments with minimum supervision.
- Handling multiple projects and tasks to meet scheduled deadlines.
- Interacting with persons of different age groups and cultural backgrounds.
- Works under the guidance of Special Education Teacher, Specialist, and/or classroom teacher with access to assistance and consultation.
- Assists teachers in implementing lesson plans and developing students' daily living and behavioral skills.
- Provides instructional support to students in large groups, small groups, and one‑on‑one situations.
- Adapts classroom work/homework under teacher direction to support learning objectives.
- Administers first aid, medical assistance and delegated health services for medically fragile or injured children.
- Maintains specialized equipment for student learning needs and ensures a safe learning environment.
- Maintains classroom equipment and student files/records, including database entries for Medicaid billing.
- Monitors student activities for safety and learning needs.
- Performs record‑keeping, scheduling, copying, and other clerical functions to support teachers.
- Attends training and utilizes district‑approved de‑escalation and physical intervention techniques when needed.
- Develops materials for student IEP implementation.
- Uses progress monitoring tools to determine student learning outcomes and collects performance data.
- Evaluates situations and directs to appropriate personnel for resolution.
- Work is performed in district schools, in both specialized and general education classrooms and other areas; involves lifting students up to 50 lbs. and exposure to personal or medical care needs.
