Job Location: Gresham HS - Gresham, OR 97030
Salary Range: $18.00 - $30.00 hourly
Term: Summer 2026 (July 1, 2026 – August 1, 2026)
Ninth Grade CountsUnder general supervision of the Site Manager, Academic Instructors are responsible for designing, planning, and teaching positive activities for a diverse group of 9th graders in writing, math, learning activities, and reading.
Summary of PositionMetropolitan Family Service is hiring 2 part‑time, temporary Academic Instructors to lead engaging classes for approximately 15 students each, with all materials and supplies provided.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Develop and implement engaging, structured, and age‑appropriate lessons for elementary students in extended‑day classrooms.
- Establish and maintain positive classroom expectations and incentive programs.
- Follow school behavior and safety procedures to ensure student safety and maintain alignment with school‑day policies.
- Develop positive working relationships with students, families, teachers, school staff, custodians, and program volunteers.
- Maintain communication with school‑day classroom teachers as necessary.
- Communicate frequently with the Site Manager about student progress, successes, concerns, and overall class development.
- Maintain the physical classroom space to the standards of the school day teacher (if shared).
- Record and submit attendance daily.
- Pass a background check through Metropolitan Family Service and Gresham Barlow.
- Experience teaching children and creating lesson plans.
- Desire and ability to work with children and ensure an enriching, positive, safe setting.
- Independent, self‑motivated, creative, and resourceful individual.
- Excellent organizational and interpersonal communication skills.
- Cooperative and able to work as part of a team.
- Willingness to ask questions for clarification and job completion.
- Demonstrated excitement, respect, and professionalism in all interactions.
- Enthusiasm for working in an inclusive environment with children of all backgrounds and abilities.
- Experience working with groups of Middle School students and strong behavior management skills.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Must be legally able to work in the United States (I‑9 documentation required).
- Spanish speaking skills are a plus.
8:00AM – 3:00PM, weekdays.
Compensation$30 per hour.
