Open until filled. This is a REGULAR position, assigned to work 7 hours/day, beginning with the 2026/27 school year on August 26, 2026.

Job Purpose Statement:

The job of "Instructional Assistant II" is done under the indirect supervision of a licensed staff member and/or school administrator to support student learning and growth in English Language Development. The incumbent performs a variety of instructional and small group support and student supervision duties to assist the school and the staff. Instructional support is in consultation with a licensed ELD teacher planned and evaluated program;

assists in providing a safe, healthy environment for students; and performs a variety of general clerical duties.

This is a mid level classification within the instructional assistant job family. Positions at this level typically perform similar duties as a Paraprofessional, but are not expected to perform with the same independence, judgment, problem-solving, and decision-making on matters relating to student learning and growth and are also distinguished by the intervention tasks and duties assigned to positions within the series.

Employees in this classification do not supervise other employees.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Assist licensed staff in the social and educational development of students. Provide English Language Development intervention instruction equal to or more than 70% of the daily schedule and/or have ELD intervention as the primary role of their assignment.
  • Implement district adopted ELD intervention programs with licensed staff consultation. This includes preparing materials, assessing student performance, teaching and monitoring student progress, and small group instruction
  • Assess and collect student ELD performance data
  • Understand and maintain district guidelines regarding safety and confidentiality
  • Provide students a safe and secure environment at all times. This may include lunch time supervision, cafeteria duty, small group management before and after school
  • Administer minor first aid
  • Provide clerical support and simple maintenance and operation of school equipment and supplies
  • Prepare instructional materials related to reading intervention
  • May provide personal care and assistance to students for the purpose of helping them access their education which may include: toileting, personal hygiene, feeding, positioning, mobility, and delegated nursing and/or therapy services
  • Encourage acceptable student behavior and maintain a positive classroom and/or small group environment. Guide and reinforce student understanding of rules and procedures
  • Participate in professional development activities related to reading
  • Maintain a confidential, non-preferential, non-judgmental manner towards the students, staff, and department/school
  • Assist students by answering questions, provide proper examples, and offer general guidance
  • Maintain student records and files
  • Maintains regular and appropriate attendance and is on time for assignment(s) for the purpose of meeting the needs of the students and the district.
  • Compile student information and materials and prepare reports
  • Assist licensed staff with phone calls to parents
  • Employ good judgment in a variety of situations, including emergencies
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with supervisor, staff, parents, and general public
