Salary Range: $22.29 to $30.54/hour

Position Summary

The Instructional Assistant provides educational supports through supervision and instruction of students under the direction of licensed staff. Assistance to the licensed teacher is achieved through the planning and implementation of assigned instructional programs for students who are not in categorical programs (e.g., special education, ELL) and completing routine clerical tasks.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Experience:

    Prior paid or volunteer job‑related experience with school‑age children.
  • Education:

    Completed associate’s degree or higher, at least two years of study (72 college quarter hours or more) or equivalent rigorous standard.
  • Licenses/Certifications:

    Criminal Justice Fingerprint.
  • Clearance:
    First Aid/CPR card.
Knowledge Of And Skill In
  • Principles of child development and instructional practices.
  • Operating standard office equipment and computer applications (email, system applications, word processing, database, spreadsheet, desktop publishing).
  • Basic clerical functions and arithmetic calculations.
  • Effective communication in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Read, interpret, and apply rules, regulations, and policies.
  • Understanding and carrying out verbal and written instructions.
  • Rapidly learn methods and materials used in a variety of instructional situations.
  • Self‑starter, works independently or in a team.
  • Plan, prioritize, and complete assignments with minimum supervision.
  • Handle multiple projects and tasks to meet deadlines.
  • Interact with persons of different age groups and cultural backgrounds.
Essential Job Functions
  • Work under guidance of the licensed teacher with access to assistance and consultation and regular monitoring.
  • Assist teachers in assessment, supporting curriculum, student interactions, enforcing safe behaviors, and enhancing social growth of students.
  • Provide instructional support and tutoring to students in large groups, small groups, and one‑on‑one situations.
  • Perform record‑keeping and basic clerical functions (e.g., scheduling, copying to support teachers in maintaining student files and providing classroom materials).
  • Confer with teachers to provide feedback on student performance in instructional areas.
  • Help support students in developing positive interpersonal relationships with peers and adults.
  • Promote safety of students through application of district student‑management and safety guidelines.
  • Monitor individual students, classroom, and/or playground activities for safe and positive learning environment.
  • Recognize escalating/emergency situation, call for help, and assist until help arrives.
  • Evaluate situations to take appropriate action and/or direct to appropriate personnel for resolution.
Other Job Functions
  • Cross‑train in a variety of school functions and assist other personnel as required.
  • Maintain classroom equipment, materials, and students’ files, records, etc.
  • Administer first aid and medical assistance for ill or injured children.
  • Confere with teachers, parents, and community agency personnel under teacher supervision to assist in evaluation of students’ progress.
  • Participate in meetings to share information and improve skills.
  • Assist with transportation needs of students, including supervision to and from the bus and loading/unloading of buses.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor within scope of the job.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to sit, stand, or walk for prolonged periods.
  • Talk and hear conversations in potentially noisy environment.
