Job DescriptionMicrochip is hiring an Intern (Engineer-Facilities) in the Facilities Site Services department at our Fab 4 facility in Gresham, Oregon.
The primary responsibility of the Facilities Engineer Intern is to support facilities engineering projects, system improvements, and operational analysis across utility systems that support semiconductor manufacturing. The intern will work alongside facility engineers, system owners, and technicians to deliver project tasks, evaluate system performance, and develop/document engineering solutions.
This is scheduled to be a 3-month summer internship. We will consider extending the internship on a part-time basis.
Essential Functions- Assist facility engineers with planning, designing, and executing engineering projects supporting fab utilities and infrastructure.
- Conduct system performance evaluations, data analysis, and troubleshooting for mechanical, chemical, electrical, and environmental systems.
- Develop project documentation including scopes of work, schedules, budgets, presentations, and engineering summaries.
- Participate in field investigations, equipment walkdowns, and engineering assessments with system owners.
- Support installation, commissioning, and qualification activities for facility equipment and process utilities.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Production, Equipment Engineering, and EH&S.
- Assist in preparing drawings, updating system documentation, and maintaining engineering records.
- Evaluate opportunities for energy savings, cost reduction, and system reliability improvements.
- Support safe work practices and maintain compliance with semiconductor facility protocols.
- Support a “self-perform” culture with reduced reliance on external contractors.
Required Qualifications
- Currently pursuing a 4-year Engineering degree in Mechanical, Chemical, or a related engineering discipline.
- Strong interest in facilities engineering, industrial systems, and semiconductor manufacturing infrastructure.
- Fundamental understanding of engineering principles related to fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, electrical systems, or chemical processes.
- Excellent organizational, time management, and stress‑management skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to evaluate technical data.
- Professional, respectful, and accountable team player with strong initiative.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
- Competency with engineering software tools, spreadsheets, and data analysis platforms.
- Ability and willingness to perform fieldwork including equipment walkdowns, inspections, and system assessments.
