Service Specialist – Electrolyzer Services

Position Summary
The Service Specialist is responsible for coordinating and performing services and preventative maintenance duties, troubleshooting, repair, and general maintenance for electrolyzers at various customer sites across Europe, with potential international travel. The role requires excellent mechanical aptitude and a high degree of familiarity with industrial hydrogen systems and performance. The specialist must be on‑call and responsive to urgent needs so that customer sites maintain hydrogen production around the clock.

The role demands strong communication with cross‑functional departments, enhancing electrolyzer system designs, resolving defects based on field experience and data, and interfacing with customer stakeholders to exceed their expectations.

Core Duties And Responsibilities
  • Travel as needed to customer sites to perform service and preventative maintenance duties, as well as troubleshooting, repair, and general maintenance for electrolyzers and other hydrogen systems deployed by Plug Power.
  • Be highly knowledgeable in the operation and troubleshooting of industrial hydrogen systems and components; experience with preventative and corrective maintenance is highly preferable.
  • Demonstrate expertise in the construction, commissioning, and operation of industrial hydrogen systems, including safe operation of equipment, control system ideology, electrical wiring schematics, piping (high and low pressure), equipment and material specifications, and environmental impacts on equipment function and performance.
  • Diagnose system problems, troubleshoot, and design systems for optimum performance while considering all relevant factors and requirements.
  • Read and interpret drawings, P&IDs, and other technical documents.
  • Professional, effective interaction with customers and external vendors, maintaining a customer service focus at all times.
  • Operate independently with minimal supervision, achieving high‑quality results in work assignments.
  • Develop and oversee the preventative maintenance program for all electrolyzer field equipment to ensure reliability and customer satisfaction.
  • Monitor field equipment performance, recommend design enhancements, and implement enhancements to maximize performance and reliability.
  • Engage with customers to solicit input regarding electrolyzer infrastructure and performance, address concerns, and provide design and operational suggestions.
  • Prioritize safety in all facets of work and ensure all parties are knowledgeable about safe operation of electrolyzer equipment and infrastructure.
  • Respond urgently to all field equipment repair needs and maintenance concerns, possibly with short‑notice travel.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned within the role.
Qualifications

Education and Experience
  • Associate’s degree or vocational degree in engineering technology or related field.
  • High school diploma with 3+ years of relevant work experience may be considered in lieu of the degree.
  • Superior communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to travel heavily and on short notice (up to 100%).
  • High skill level with mechanical systems installation, troubleshooting, and repair.
  • Industrial hydrogen systems experience highly preferred.
  • Ability to diagnose system failures and isolate root causes.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Analytical abilities and data analysis skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • Professionalism and results‑oriented work style.
  • Excellent task‑oriented follow‑through.
Pay Rate

$27.50 – $40.00 hourly.
