Overview
The Staff Physical Therapy Assistant assumes clinical responsibility in an assigned facility. This is a professional position with the primary responsibility of direct patient care under the supervision of a Physical Therapist. Additional duties of an administrative nature are to be performed as assigned. Under the supervision of a Physical Therapist, at all times the assistant is responsible for following state‑specific laws governing the provision of physical therapy in‑home care, performing only procedures that the assistant is qualified and trained to perform, and making recommendations for changes in the plan of care to the supervising Physical Therapist.
Responsibilities- Follow the plan of care, instruct and aid patients in active and passive exercise, muscle re‑education, gait training, functional activities, ADL, transfer, safety, and prosthetic training.
- Observe, record, and report to the supervising PT, nurse, and/or physician the patient’s response to treatment and changes in condition.
- Instruct patient, family, caregiver, and other team members in therapy areas they can participate in to assist the patient.
- Visit patient according to Plan of Treatment; complete a daily note for each visit.
- Participate in developing the Plan of Treatment as needed with communication with the supervising Physical Therapist.
- Adhere to Therapy Standards of Practice in the provision of services to all patients.
- Report to the Physical Therapist information relating to the patient’s progress, complications, and/or response to treatment.
- Assist Physical Therapist in performing procedures, tests, and complex treatment to ensure safe, effective evaluation and treatment of patients.
- Possess a degree in Physical Therapy Assistant from an accredited institution.
- Possess, prior to onboarding and maintain, a current, unrestricted license to practice as a Physical Therapy Assistant in the assigned State.
- Be able to take direction from registered therapists and other team members to promote patient treatment and safety.
- Be able to work independently with periodic (daily or less) support and direction.
