About the Position
Gresham Police Officers provide emergency aid, security, and protection of life and property for the citizens of Gresham by patrolling business, rural, and residential areas. Officers respond to requests for information and assistance, investigate criminal activity, subdue combative suspects, make arrests, work with people to solve problems associated with crime and neighborhood problems, and ensure proper enforcement of laws and regulations.
Responsibilities- Patrol assigned areas, monitoring for incidents.
- Respond promptly to emergency calls and provide assistance.
- Investigate criminal activity and gather evidence.
- Use handcuffs, firearms and other equipment safely and effectively.
- Maintain community relationships and enforce laws.
- Provide accurate statements and evidence for court proceedings.
- Completed a state certified police academy.
- Completed a law enforcement field training program or passed a probationary period of not less than one (1) year with a law enforcement agency as a full-time sworn officer.
- Been employed as a full-time sworn officer within five (5) years prior to appointment.
- High School Diploma or G.E.D.
- At least twenty-one (21) years of age at the date of hire.
- No felony criminal record.
- U.S. Citizenship within 18 months of hire date.
- Driving record meets department standards.
- Knowledge of federal, state, county and city laws, regulations, and ordinances.
- Understanding of criminal behavior and the social, psychological and physical needs of offenders.
- Proficiency with standard police practices, methods, and procedures.
- Familiarity with safety standards, investigative methods, and rules of evidence.
- Basic first aid and CPR ability.
- Safe handling of firearms and related equipment.
- Excellent communication in writing and oral, with the ability to engage diverse community members.
- Ability to analyze situations quickly, recognize danger, and determine proper course of action.
- Observation skills and recall of details such as names, faces and incidents.
- Competitive living wage and base salary, with overtime, premium pay for specialty or instructor assignments, certification pay, shift differential, and other incentives.
