An externship experience at an NVA hospital will give veterinary students the opportunity to understand the day-to-day operations of the practice and to gain valuable hands‑on clinical experience. Although each NVA hospital is unique, they share a supportive environment committed to excellent medicine and exceptional service to animals and the people who love them.
Responsibilitiesd Pet Medical, students will work closely with supervising Associate Veterinarians to gather patient histories, perform physical examinations, create treatment plans, conduct diagnostics, provide dentistry services, observe or assist in surgical procedures, and manage medical care for patients. Students will also develop communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.
Eligibility & StipendAll veterinary students, regardless of class year, are encouraged to participate in NVA externships. Most externship experiences range from two to eight weeks depending on student and hospital schedules.
Veterinary students in the clinical portion of their education are eligible for a travel/living expense stipend. to view the list of stipend amounts and HERE for details on the stipend program.
