About

The Role

UNICA is a program within El Programa Hispano Católico that provides prevention and intervention services to survivors of domestic and sexual violence. The goal of the program is to provide support, advocacy, and opportunity for self-empowerment that enables survivors to exercise free and informed life choices. UNICA is home to the first 24-hour DV/SA Spanish language Crisis Line offered in the state of Oregon.

This is a bilingual Domestic Violence Survivor Advocate position that will provide short term (approximately 3-6 months) crisis case management, safety planning, and resource navigation to DV survivors that are referred to UNICA through our 24/7 UNICA Crisis Line and other community partners. The advocate will support with coordination and facilitation of support groups and conducts community outreach to reach Latine survivors of domestic violence.

This position requires a strong anti-oppression and social justice lens.

Principle

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Provide crisis intervention, safety planning, advocacy, housing advocacy (SSA’s) and related support services to Latine survivors of domestic violence.
  • Provide information and referrals to survivors and work with internal and external service providers to support survivor needs.
  • Assess domestic violence survivors needs/strengths to develop service plan with appropriate action steps.
  • Advocate for Latine survivors with outside agencies and government systems (i.e. Courts, Social Security, Immigration, DHS, and others as needed).
  • Participate in community meetings with other social service organizations to promote the agency as an identifiable resource for Latine survivors of domestic violence and maintain timely and cooperative contact with outside agencies.
  • Participate in various team projects including team meetings, project coordination and implementation of pertinent activities such as 40 Hr. DV/SA workshops.
  • Support the organization and maintenance of updated resource materials for survivors of domestic violence.
  • Maintain an active caseload of 12-15 domestic violence survivors with required documentation according to agency and contractual standards.
  • Facilitate domestic violence support groups and deliver educational training programs and workshops for the community.
  • Weekly 4-hour Crisis Line shift with occasional back up coverage as necessary.
  • Occasional back-up shifts at Gateway Center as assigned by manager.
  • Maintain confidential participant files in database/s and compliance with HIPAA, El Programa Hispano Católico, and funder policies and procedures.
