Residential Assistant at NARA Northwest is responsible for providing supportive care and supervision to youth residents in a residential treatment setting. The position requires dedication, trauma‑informed care, and a commitment to the organization’s mission of culturally appropriate services for American Indian/Alaska Native communities.

Position Overview

Residential Assistants (RA’s) attend to all youth-related needs during their scheduled shift. This includes monitoring daily living activities, completing documentation, and using trauma‑informed approaches to create a safe environment for healing and recovery.

Responsibilities
  • Provide support and intervention to youth using trauma‑informed approaches.
  • Assist with academic tutoring and homework.
  • Complete daily communication logs, incident reports, and other required documentation.
  • Facilitate medication administration and maintain medication administration records.
  • Attend staff meetings and training sessions.
  • Maintain the facility in a clean, orderly manner while on duty.
  • Conduct regular safety checks.
  • Maintain open communication with youth and coworkers to create a positive environment.
  • Facilitate after‑hour youth activities.
  • Observe and supervise youth completing chores.
  • Follow all policies and procedures for admissions, discharges, and visitation.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Over the age of 23 (per insurance policy).
  • Valid, active driver’s license.
  • Current, active auto insurance.
  • Availability for swing shift 3:00PM – 11:30PM, weekends required.
  • Driving is a requirement for this position.
Additional Requirements
  • Pre‑employment drug test (including marijuana).
  • Criminal background and DMV check.
  • CPR, CPI, and Food Handlers card within 30 days of hire.
  • Ability to set and maintain professional boundaries with youth and staff.
  • Demonstrated ability to treat clients and staff with respect and dignity.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in substance use/abuse treatment with youth.
  • Understanding of 12‑step philosophy and youth treatment modalities.
  • Addiction counseling certification or knowledge.
  • Experience working within Native American/Alaska Native community.
