In this role you will lead the way in Child Welfare services, managing conflicts, setting goals, and providing feedback to team members. You will supervise social service staff to ensure the safety and permanency of children’s lives, making impactful decisions that create positive change in the community.

Summary of Duties
  • Engage and supervise staff by planning, executing, monitoring, and evaluating activities related to ODHS and Child Welfare.
  • Ensure staff adhere to good social work practices, state and federal laws, and department policies.
  • Continuously review programs and standards affecting quality, safety, and permanency of children’s lives.
  • Provide general training, orientation, mentoring, and consultations to staff.
  • Maintain cooperative relationships with staff, community partners, children, and families.
  • Make informed decisions regarding the level and type of services provided to client families.
  • Review and approve work.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in human services or a related field + two years of lead work, supervision, or progressively related human services experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree unrelated to human services + completion of coursework equivalent to Oregon Caseworker Competency + two years of lead work, supervision, or progressively related experience in human services.
  • Associate degree + three years of human services related experience, two of which must have included lead work, supervision, or progressively related experience.
  • Associate degree + completion of coursework equivalent to Oregon Caseworker Competency + two years of lead work, supervision, or progressively related experience in human services.

Essential Attributes
  • Experience developing and managing a caseload or case plan related to safety practice models.
  • Experience implementing organizational objectives and ensuring appropriate quantity and quality of work.
  • Experience supervising and managing a work unit, including hiring, training, assigning, reviewing work, and providing performance feedback.
  • Experience with project management and continuous quality improvement.
  • Experience creating and maintaining a respectful, collaborative work environment and leading teams professionally.
  • Experience developing constructive relationships with partners and community members and maintaining them over time.
  • Experience supervising a program or policy area that serves vulnerable adults.
Work Conditions

Work Locations:
Offices, participants’ homes, and community sites.

Travel:
Occasional travel for meetings, trainings, and other case‑related activities, including required occasional overnight travel.

Hours:

Regular work week with fluctuating hours; occasional overtime, evenings, and weekends. On‑call:
Part of a rotating schedule that includes evenings and weekends.

Physical Requirements
  • Frequent physical activity, including lifting up to50pounds and assisting children with car seats.
  • Handling sensitive topics related to trauma, abuse, and crises with a trauma‑informed approach.
  • Ability to manage stressful situations requiring quick decision‑making for safety.
Background Checks and Requirements
  • Criminal history and background check required; adverse history may lead to disqualification.
  • FBI Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) fingerprint‑based criminal records check required.
  • Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record required.
  • Within three days of hire, completion of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security I‑9 form and E‑Verify confirmation required.
