Pump Technician
Job Description
The pump technician supports a large landfill gas collection and control system by performing maintenance of wellfield pumps and their systems. This role focuses on maintaining safe and efficient landfill gas operations, including pump maintenance, surface emissions monitoring, and data collection, while working primarily in the field and the pump shop.
Responsibilities
* Perform pump maintenance, including pulling, cleaning, servicing, and replacing pumps as needed.
* Conduct surface emissions monitoring (SEM) across the landfill to identify and address potential gas emissions.
* Measure and record liquid levels and use probes throughout the landfill, which requires extensive walking on uneven terrain.
* Support the operation and maintenance of the landfill gas collection and control system (GCCS) at a large landfill site.
* Monitor and tune the landfill wellfield to ensure optimal gas collection performance and regulatory compliance.
* Perform routine inspections of landfill gas infrastructure and promptly report issues or anomalies.
* Assist with environmental field work, including field sampling and environmental testing related to landfill gas operations.
* Collect, enter, and maintain accurate data on system performance, field readings, and maintenance activities.
* Apply mechanical skills to troubleshoot and repair landfill gas system components and related equipment.
* Follow all safety procedures and participate in safety-focused culture and programs.
* Collaborate with environmental and engineering teams to support landfill gas projects and system improvements.
Essential Skills
* 0-1 years of experience working with pumps or pump systems or similar environmental field systems.
* Experience or strong interest in landfill gas operations, environmental engineering, or environmental field work.
* Ability to perform data entry and maintain accurate records for monitoring and maintenance activities.
* Mechanical experience sufficient to support pump maintenance and basic repairs.
* Willingness and physical ability to walk extensively across landfill terrain while performing monitoring tasks.
* Basic understanding of environmental testing, field sampling, or environmental field operations.
* Commitment to working safely in an outdoor industrial environment.
Additional
Skills & Qualifications
* 40-hour HAZWOPER or 8-hour HAZWOPER refresher training is a plus; if not currently held, the company will require and support attainment.
* ISCO pipe fusion certification is a plus.
* Prior pump, landfill gas, or environmental field experience is beneficial.
* Experience with data collection tools and field instrumentation is advantageous.
* Interest in growing within an employee-owned organization with an ESOP program.
Work Environment
This role is based at a landfill equipped with a gas collection and control system (GCCS) that supplies a gas-to-energy plant. The position is primarily field-based and involves working outdoors in varying weather conditions on active landfill sites, including frequent walking over uneven, sloped, and sometimes muddy or rough terrain. The environment includes exposure to landfill gas systems, mechanical equipment, and industrial infrastructure.
Work hours typically follow a standard full-time schedule, with the potential for occasional variation based on operational needs. Safety is a core value, and the organization emphasizes a strong safety culture and people-first approach. Appropriate field attire and personal protective equipment (PPE) are required and provided in accordance with safety standards for landfill and environmental field work.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Griffin, GA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $23.00/hr.
