Job Summary

This position assists in the safety support of GSCS schools, students, and staff.

The primary responsibility of this position is to monitor walk-through weapons detectors to help assure that weapons and other prohibited items are not being brought into the building, using hand-held Detectors (wands) to scan people as a secondary measure.

Monitors entrance, exits, and controls access to school grounds and facilities. Security monitors will be required to wear GSCS polo shirts and khaki pants.

• Maintains stationary or mobile position as assigned during regular school hours and for extracurricular activities
• Conducts book bag/personal bag checks
• Remains mobile and visible by patrolling school corridors
• Keeps watchful eye for unusual activity
• Monitors entry/exit activity and keeps the peace
• Ensures that weapons do not enter the building
• Maintains a safe and secure environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors by patrolling and monitoring the premises of designated buildings.
• Responds to alarms, investigate disturbances, and enforce school policies.
• Writes detailed reports of daily activities and irregularities, such as property damage, theft, weapons, or trespassing.
• Assists students with safe, orderly entry and dismissal
• Ensures unauthorized personnel do not enter the building
• Follows protocol per policy and procedure guidelines
• Debriefs with the Coordinator of School Safety and building administrators on the day's activities
• Ensures security for all extracurricular activities before and after school and on weekends.

• No Supervisory Responsibilities

• High school diploma or equivalent

• Previous work experience with a focus on security

• College coursework
• Previous work experience working in school security

Ability to be trained in school safety

Ability to understand the development of children

Familiarity with the school routine

Good observation skills

Good judgment
