Middle School / High School Least Restrictive Environment (LRE) Teacher

The Middle School/High School Least Restrictive Environment Teacher provides specialized instruction, interventions, accommodations, and support to students with disabilities in grades 6-12. The LRE Teacher works collaboratively with general education teachers, special education staff, administrators, counselors, paraprofessionals, related service providers, students, and families to ensure students receive appropriate services in the least restrictive environment. The LRE Teacher is responsible for implementing Individualized Education Programs, monitoring student progress, supporting access to the general education curriculum, and maintaining compliance with applicable federal and state special education requirements.

The successful candidate must demonstrate the ability to understand and apply special education laws, regulations, procedures, and timelines. Develop and implement compliant, data-driven IEPs. Provide differentiated and specially designed instruction. Work effectively with students with a wide range of academic, behavioral, social-emotional, communication, and functional needs. Collaborate effectively with general education teachers and multidisciplinary teams. Interpret student data and use results to guide instruction and intervention.

Communicate professionally and respectfully with students, families, colleagues, and community partners. Maintain accurate, organized, and confidential records. Manage multiple students, responsibilities, deadlines, and compliance requirements. Use instructional technology, student information systems, special education software, and progress-monitoring tools. Maintain a student-centered, solution-focused, and professional approach.

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. Valid Indiana teaching license with the appropriate special education certification or eligibility to obtain the required license. Knowledge of special education law, IEP development, progress monitoring, accommodations, and specially designed instruction. Successful completion of required background checks. Ability to meet all district employment requirements.

Experience teaching or supporting students with disabilities at the middle or high school level. Experience with co-teaching, inclusion, resource-room instruction, and intervention programs. Experience developing and managing IEPs. Knowledge of Indiana graduation requirements, diploma pathways, transition planning, and state assessments. Training in behavior intervention, de-escalation, trauma-informed practices, or crisis prevention. Experience working with multidisciplinary teams and paraprofessionals.

The employee must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation. Responsibilities may require the employee to sit, stand, walk, bend, reach, and move throughout the school building. Communicate effectively in person, electronically, and by telephone. Operate computers, instructional technology, and standard office equipment. Supervise and respond to students in classroom and non-classroom settings.

Occasionally lift or move instructional materials and equipment. Respond appropriately to student behavioral, medical, or safety-related situations. Work in an environment that may include interruptions, deadlines, changing priorities, and student behavioral needs.
