The Department Anthropology invites applications for a tenure-track appointment in BIOLOGICAL ANTHROPOLOGY beginning fall 2026. Assistant Professor (Ph.D.) preferred;
Instructor (ABD) or Associate Professor possible. Research and teaching interests are open to any area in biological anthropology.

The teaching load is five courses over two semesters; periodically one course will be Tutorial (a topical writing/critical thinking course for first-year students, the only College-wide requirement beyond the completion of a major in an individually-advised curriculum). The successful candidate will be the sole biological anthropologist in a four-field department and will be expected to develop a two- to three-year course rotation that ensures coverage of core areas of the subfield.

There will also be opportunities to incorporate their own areas of interest, either through additional elective offerings or by integrating those interests into core courses. Candidates will also be expected to teach an introductory course that incorporates the four-fields of American anthropology (i.e. biological anthropology, archaeology, cultural anthropology, and linguistic anthropology) through the exploration of some topic (such as adaptation, kinship, childhood, migration, etc.).

We are particularly interested in candidates who are prepared to incorporate students into their research or to develop other research opportunities for students interested in the subfield. Additional information about our curriculum and faculty can be found at https://(Use the "Apply for this Job" box below)..

Assistant Professor (Ph.D.) preferred;
Instructor (ABD) or Associate Professor possible.

In letters of application, candidates should discuss their interest in developing as a teacher and scholar in a highly selective undergraduate liberal arts college that emphasizes close student-faculty interaction. They should also discuss their potential to contribute to a college community that maintains a diversity of people and perspectives as one of its core values. To be assured of full consideration, all application materials should be received by October 17, 2025.

Candidates will need to upload a letter of application, curriculum vitae, transcripts (copies are acceptable), provide brief course descriptions (less than 200 words) for four distinct courses in the subfield that the candidate would like to include in a two-year rotation, and provide email addresses for three references.
