Position: Department of Psychology (Tenure Track, Start Fall 2027)

Description

The Department of Psychology invites applications for atenure-track appointment in social psychology, broadly defined,beginning Fall 2027. Assistant Professor (Ph.D.) preferred;

Instructor (ABD) or Associate Professor possible. We seek acandidate with research and teaching interests in social and/orpersonality psychology whose courses will engage and support our diverse undergraduate students and involve them meaningfully in research. The Department of Psychology offers one of Grinnell College’s largest majors. Our investigative curriculum equipsstudents with strong research skills that facilitate participation in individually mentored research. Modern teaching laboratories,provide the venues for authentic investigations.

Ourteacher-scholar model fosters faculty student researchcollaborations.

The teaching load is five courses [OR EQUIVALENT] over two semesters; periodically one course will be Tutorial (a topical writing/critical thinking coursefor first-year students, the only College-wide requirementbeyond the completion of a major in an individually-advised curriculum). The successful candidates will teach some combination of introductory psychologyand both intermediate and advanced courses in their area of specialization. In addition, successful candidates will mentor andengage students in authentic research projects.

To support the development of a robust research program involvingundergraduates, the College provides highly competitive start‑upfunds, dedicated laboratory space, and a junior research leavefollowing a successful third‑year review, in addition to regularsabbatical opportunities for tenured faculty.
