Position: RN Acute - ICU Nursing - Grinnell - Full Time Days or One Night a Week

Job Overview

As a member of the interdisciplinary team, you will contribute professional knowledge and skills in the provision and management of care to patients and their families as directed by the medical staff. You will guide and supervise nursing personnel, collaborate with other healthcare professionals, and coordinate ancillary staff, demonstrating professional growth and accountability. You will provide care for patients in an 8‑bed mixed intensive care unit.

Shift

Details

Full‑time: 7 am–7 pm, rotating every third weekend and on holidays. Part‑time: 7 pm–7 am for one night each week. FTE 0.9 per pay period.

Sign‑On Bonus

Up to $20,000 for full‑time eligible new hires through July 31, 2026.

Responsibilities
  • Demonstrate time‑management skills by completing care and assignments promptly and exercising safe judgment in decision‑making.
  • Report, in a timely manner, pertinent patient observations, significant incidents, or any changes in a patient’s condition to the appropriate person.
  • Assess the needs of patients and families, provide appropriate teaching, and make necessary referrals to ensure continuity of care.
  • Develop an individual plan of care using a collaborative approach with the patient/family and health‑care team.
  • Complete documentation promptly to assure an accurate legal record of patient care.
  • Deliver high‑quality care utilizing the nursing process while demonstrating the knowledge and clinical skills required for the specialty on the assigned unit in accordance with established policies, procedures, and standards of care.
  • Employ a holistic approach (considering biopsychosocial, spiritual, educational, safety, and related criteria) appropriate to the age of the patients and families served.
  • Delegate and provide direction for other health‑care team members within their scope of practice and hold them accountable for their involvement in the plan of care.
  • Utilize critical thinking to develop nursing interventions while maintaining responsibility and accountability for the knowledge of conditions of assigned patients.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of medications and their correct administration, follow medication administration procedures, and appropriately document all administered medications.
  • Assess and choose teaching strategies appropriate to the patient’s and their families’ age‑specific, cultural, gender, readiness to learn, and comprehension level.
  • Consult appropriate resources within the hospital to provide specialized education.
  • Demonstrate awareness that patient and workplace safety is a priority by preventing errors, accidents, and infections, and reporting potential or actual concerns immediately.
Qualifications
  • Graduate of an accredited Nursing Program.
  • BSN preferred.
Experience
  • One year of critical‑care experience preferred.
Licenses & Certifications
  • Current Iowa Registered Nurse License.
  • Must possess and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or obtain certification within three months of hire.
  • Must receive Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certifications within twelve months of hire.
  • GRMC approved Critical Care Course current or completed within the first year of employment.
  • Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) current or completed within the first year of employment or at the first available subsequent class offered by GRMC.
  • Certification in Critical Care Nursing (CCRN) preferred.
  • Valid driver's license for work‑related driving and vehicle access as required.
