Floating: May float between ICU, Stepdown, and Med Surg
Position Summary:
Provides comprehensive ICU nursing care in a small ICU/Stepdown setting. Must be comfortable caring for 2–5 patients and floating between ICU, Stepdown, and Med Surg as needed.
Unit Details:
- ICU: 5 beds + 3 Stepdown beds
- ICU ratio: 1:2, occasionally 1:3 depending on census
- Med Surg: 23 beds, approximately 1:5 ratio
- ICU patients: ventilated, BiPAP, Airvo, bariatric surgery, general surgery
- Common drips:
Propofol, Levophed, diltiazem, insulin, heparin - Med Surg patients: bariatric surgery, orthopedic, and general medical
Requirements:
- 24 months of recent/current ICU experience required
- Travel experience within the past 24 months required
- Med Surg experience strongly encouraged
- EPIC experience required
- Telemetry interpretation/measurement required
- ACLS, BLS, PALS, TNCC required
- NIHSS preferred; may be completed during onboarding
- Active Iowa or Compact/Multistate RN license required
- Must be at least 50 miles from the facility
- Current Driver's License required
- ICU-specific skills checklist completed within the past year required
- Professional reference from a charge nurse, supervisor, manager, director, CNO, or COO within the past 24 months preferred
Holiday Requirement:
Unless the unit is closed, travelers must work 1–2 of the 3 winter holidays.
Additional Eligibility:
Previous UnityPoint employees, including FTEs and PRN float pool employees, are not eligible for travel assignments in another market within 12 months of employment.
