Position Summary

The Director of Safety Town provides leadership, planning, and daily oversight for a community-based safety education program designed to teach young children essential safety skills. This position ensures a safe, engaging, and developmentally appropriate learning environment while partnering with community agencies such as police, fire, and other emergency services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Implement program curriculum and schedules aligned with program goals.
  • Coordinate guest speakers, first responder visits, community partnerships, and special activities.
  • Oversee daily program operations, ensuring a safe, structured, and inclusive environment.
  • Maintain program materials, facilities, and supplies.
  • Recruit, hire, train, and supervise support staff and volunteers.
  • Provide ongoing coaching, guidance, and feedback to staff and volunteers.
  • Create and promote a positive team culture grounded in professionalism, safety and child development best practices.
  • Manage program registration, attendance, and records.
  • Maintain program policies, handbook, and documentation.
  • Submit reports, incident forms, and evaluations as required.
Qualifications
  • Associate's degree in Education, Child Development, or a child-related field (preferred).
  • Experience working with young children (ages 5-9) in an educational or recreational setting.
  • Prior experience supervising staff or volunteers.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to collaborate with school personnel, families, and community partners.
  • CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain prior to program start).
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to actively engage with young children indoors and outdoors.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs and set up learning materials and equipment.
Program Schedule / Work Schedule
  • Up to 40 hours of preplanning can be done remotely in the Spring. Planning includes contacting all volunteers and scheduling visits for each session.
  • 8-week in person position, Monday-Friday, 8:00am–12:00pm (hours may vary during classroom set up and graduation).
  • Refresher Sessions:
    • Session 1 June 16-18
    • Session 2 July 7-9
  • Safety Town Sessions:
    • Session 1 June 22-26
    • Session 2 July 13-17
    • Session 3 July 20-24
    • Session 4 July 27-31
    • Session 5 August 3-7
    • Session 6 August 10-14

Hourly Rate: $20.81
