About the Unit
A 39‑bed unit, Critical Care Step Down, is committed to providing high quality, patient‑ and family‑centered care for populations with varied medical conditions including pulmonary, cardiac, neurological disorders, and post‑operative care for surgical patients requiring higher levels of nursing care. The unit also cares for ventilated tracheostomy patients. RNs and NAs work collaboratively as a cohesive team.
Job SummaryThe clinical nurse, under the ANA scope of practice, uses the framework of the nursing process to provide professional nursing care while incorporating patient‑family centered care principles. The Clinical Nurse delivers quality patient care under the direction of the Nurse Leader in accordance with Corewell Health policies and procedures.
Responsibilities- Provide professional nursing care according to the nursing process and patient‑family centered care principles.
- Work under the direction of the Nurse Leader and comply with Corewell Health policies and procedures.
- Collaborate with unit staff, RNs and NAs, to deliver cohesive, high‑quality care.
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with an associate degree or higher.
- Diploma, A.D.N., B.S.N., M.S.N., DNP/PhD – if not a minimum BSN, a new graduate/nurse with less than one (1) year of experience is required to sign an educational contract upon hire to complete a BSN within a specified timeframe and adhere to the contract stipulations; must enroll in an accredited BSN program within one (1) year of licensure and complete it within the next five (5) years.
- Graduates from a non‑accredited nursing program with at least one year of acute‑care experience or more than two years of experience in a licensed health‑care role (e.g., LPN, EMT) who have successfully passed the NCLEX are required.
- Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in the State of Michigan.
- Upon hire, required Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA).
- Upon hire, required Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification from the AHA.
- Critical Care, Emergency Care, Pre‑Op and PACU, Radiology knowledge or equivalent experience for 180 days required.
