The Grosse Pointe Hospital Cotton Family Birth Center/Women's Health Unit is comprised of 11 LDRP rooms, a Triage room, and a Natural Birth Suite. This Natural Birth Suite is used often by our Nurse Midwives and patients who want to enjoy a low intervention birth experience. In addition, adjacent to the FBC is a 9-bed unit that cares for gynecologic and medical patients.
We also care for readmitted post-partum patients, newborns less than 28 days old, and low risk ante-partum patients. We are committed to ensuring professional, safe patient-family-centered care for all our patients and their families. We have an Obstetrician and Pediatrician that reside on the floor 24/7.

The Clinical Nurse Manager is an experienced leader responsible for managing assigned areas and services and supervising assigned patient care staff to promote the creation of a center of excellence for staff recruitment and retention and clinical and business outcomes. The Nurse Manager is responsible for ensuring safe and effective delivery of patient care and clinical outcomes, compliance with regulatory, administrative and clinical standards, and policies and procedures.
The Nurse Manager serves as a chief retention and safety officer. He/she ensures that safety and quality standards are upheld by effective use of data and technology to make decisions and proactively mitigates unnecessary risks for his/her area of responsibility. The Nurse Manager creates and ensures a desirable, safe work environment that enables the organization to meet or exceed its mission and goals.
He/she models the way to foster communication and collaboration with physicians, staff, patients and other departments. Role specific competencies, responsibilities, roles and functions are based on the Professional Practice Model. This position reports to the Director of Nursing or above.
Areas of responsibility include maintaining 24-hour responsibility and accountability for providing leadership and management of a designated patient care unit which promotes quality nursing care, cost effective use of resources and professional growth for nursing staff. Promotes a Patient Family Centered Care Culture.
QualificationsRequired:
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
- Minimum of three (3) years of clinical nursing experience (labor & delivery/obstetrics)
- MI Registered Nurse (RN) license
- AHA or ARC Basic Life Support (BLS) Required.
- AAP Certified Neonatal Resuscitation (NRP) Required.
- NCC Certified Electronic Fetal Monitoring (C-EFM) within six months Required.
- One year of formal nursing leadership experience (external candidates)
Preferred:
- Master of Science in Nursing (MSN)
- Two years of demonstrated informal leadership experience for internal candidates, which may include roles such as Charge Nurse, Lead Nurse, or participation in Shared Governance Councils
