Cost Accountant

Description We are looking for an experienced Cost Accountant to support manufacturing finance activities for a long-term contract opportunity in Groton, Connecticut. This position focuses on cost control, inventory valuation, and variance management within a production environment, while partnering with operations to improve financial visibility. The ideal candidate will bring strong expertise in standard costing, reporting, and month-end close support to help maintain accurate and timely financial data.

Responsibilities:

- Conduct cycle counts and assist with physical inventory activities to ensure accurate stock records and valuation.

- Analyze manufacturing cost variances and provide clear explanations for differences related to production performance.

- Establish and update annual standard costs, including the setup of costing for new materials and components.

- Manage labor, overhead, and absorption-related variance tracking to support effective cost control.

- Prepare manufacturing-related journal entries and contribute to monthly financial close activities.

- Assist with budgeting and forecasting by supplying cost data, operational insights, and financial analysis.

- Develop and maintain recurring cost and operations reports on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis.

- Monitor production spending and highlight trends, risks, and opportunities affecting plant cost performance. Requirements - Experience in cost accounting within a manufacturing environment.

- Strong knowledge of standard costing methods and manufacturing cost structures.

- Proven ability to perform variance analysis, including inventory, labor, overhead, and purchase price variances.

- Familiarity with budgeting, forecasting, and cost reporting processes.

- Experience preparing journal entries and supporting month-end close.

- Proficiency with ERP systems such as Epicor and strong Excel or reporting tool skills.

- Ability to work independently, manage priorities, and communicate financial findings clearly.
