February 06, 2026 SUMMARY
The Arts and Crafts Specialist, under the general supervision of the Playground Director and/or Playground Supervisor, plans and supervises the arts and crafts activities for the City of Groton Parks and Recreation Summer Playground program.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES- Ability to work with children of all ages in craft activities.
- Provides instruction to participants concerning arts and crafts.
- Ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with co‑workers, program participants and members of the general public.
- Knowledgeable in the techniques pertaining to arts and crafts and community recreation.
- Ability to develop and maintain a safe and cooperative environment for program participants.
- Must be 18 years of age at start of program.
- High school graduate or General Equivalency Diploma (GED).
- A minimum of two (2) years of education in arts and crafts, recreation, physical education or other related field, or two (2) years experience teaching arts and crafts.
- Must have experience as an instructor in arts and crafts, or in a leadership role in the area of arts and crafts.
- Extensive participation in arts and crafts may be substituted for educational requirements.
- Must possess and maintain as a condition of employment, proof of successful completion of Adult/Child/Infant Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and basic first aid certification.
While performing the duties of this position, the individual is frequently required to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, use hands and fingers, reach with hands and arms, and stoop. The individual may occasionally be required to lift up to twenty (20) pounds.
WORK ENVIRONMENTThe work is performed in a building or in a pavilion. The employee may be exposed to the elements of weather.
